How far apart should I place fire extinguishers?
When moving into a new storefront or workspace, you must consider where to place fire extinguishers to protect your property and comply with the fire code. The NFPA standard for placement of fire extinguishers require that for most structures, a fire extinguisher should be no more than 75 feet from any given direction. In a small room, one fire extinguisher is sufficient if it is within 75 feet from any given point. If you have a large space you will need several fire extinguishers. Because each fire extinguisher covers a circular area with a 75 foot radius, it won't work to just put one extinguisher every 150 feet: you will have gaps in coverage. Instead, fire extinguishers should be placed every 106 feet, so that the coverage circles overlap without leaving gaps.
